Our plans for today in Bergen included doing the laundry, so whilst Ilze supervised I assisted ably by leaving her to it to go and take some more photos. Ilze had been disappointed in some she took yesterday so we changed the camera settings and last night, on the way to dinner, we took some more. We bit the bullet (actually an artillery shell) and went to the Fish-market. An eye watering $310.00 for soup, fish of they day and two glasses of wine each. We met another Australian couple with the travel story from hell. Whilst in Myanmar their hotel was destroyed by fire and they lost everything except their passports that were in the hotel safe. Next stop Iceland, arriving in thongs and T-shirts was stimulating. They are on our cruise so we may get more horror stories.
The night photos were not great either so on the way to the Maritime museum, I took some more, only to find I had left the SD card at the hotel. Borrowing Ilzes we pressed on and found the museum well worth the visit. Lots of Viking stuff but plenty else from Norway’s rich naval and maritime history. A must see.
On they way back I re-took all the photos I had taken on the way, but as it was now pouring with rain so they don’t look that great either. Having not yet recovered (fiscally speaking) from last nights dinner, we entered a shopping complex where two baguette’s with spiced chicken and salad and two small coffee’s in plastic cups set us back the more reasonable sum of $48.00. I know that sometimes I am prone to exaggerate, a little, but it is true and Ilze can confirm it. (Yes it’s true) See, and you can tell it was her because her typing is neater.
Back home to blog and deciding that I am not going out for photos of the harbour for the fifth time so I have pinched one from somebody’s web site.
We are off on the ship tomorrow.
Wi-Fi will be a bit hit and miss so, in the words of the immortal Captain Oats “we may be some time”. The temperature in Tromso for the next four days reads -2C, -4C, -6C, and -8C so a polar ice cap reference is apt. (It really is, look it up on Accuweather.)
We are not going out for dinner this evening, the prices for the two packet of crisps and salted peanuts from the bar fridge is really quite attractive.
Pete.

Hi Travellers, Norway is known for being excessively expensive but we don’t know whether to believe you, Pete. I’m sure Ilze would know that it is true is spelt it’s true!
Cheers, Pat and Allan.
