IT’S DONE.

The Ice-O is Done for 2019.

The last day was cold and with a bitter wind. A final reminder that this is Iceland and you do not take her for granted.

It was warm on the sunny side of rego.

Terrain on view near day 3 start.
Note the lupins in the depression

Pete had another steady run coming in 3rd on the final day to add to my second in the sprint and a 4th in the long yesterday.

Day 3

Pete, off on his final run.

Even a smile for the press.

View of control 8 on the ridge, from the finish.

This meant my accumulated time of 2.32.07 was safely into second place extending my overnight lead from the 3rd place getter,  Robert Benedek from Austria’s LZ OMAHA, but loosing a further 11 minutes on the outright winner, Henrik Hvoslef from Norway’s IK Stern.

The podium M70.
Ice-O 219.

Pete and the bling.

I had one of my better runs, finally using the map properly, reading contours and the like. I lost time trying to squeeze under the hot water pipeline that runs through the map. It runs from the thermal springs area and provides hot water for showers and heating to the citizens of Reykjavik. I also lost time try to run through the acres of wild lupins, thinking it might be better footing. Trust me its not.

I am also Done with trying to spell Reykjavik.

Done with washing my O-gear in the shower at night.

Done with trying to remember which suitcase to pack the sharp objects in.

Done with trying to sort out Euro coins from Turkish Lira, Icelandic Kroner and UK Pounds.

Its time to go home.

But the travel is not Done.

We will be back in November. Its the Venice street Orienteering race one more time and then a tour through Ravenna, Bologna and Milan before returning home to pack for our cruise up the inside passage from Vancouver to Alaska.

The only thing we are not Done with is Life and  the friendships we made here with people who we may never see again but who will live long in our memories. (Thanks to 1376 photos.)

Done.

Pete.
