The last sea day is when it hits you – you only have one more day to do everything you haven’t done yet. How much can you cram in? Do you stick to your favourite activities or try some different ones? Have you found every secret nook and cranny on the ship?
We decided to examine every stateroom door, and nominate our favourite pieces of Door Art. Our picks would be submitted to The Wake Show, the onboard daily morning show where the cruise director runs through the day’s happenings, reads out bad G-rated jokes sent in by guests, does shout-outs and gives out prizes (speaking of which, we managed to win a “life changing” prize at trivia the other day. It’s a tough gig on this ship, the trivia venues are always very full).
So after a leisurely breakfast and morning trivia (no prize today), we set out to walk past every single stateroom on the ship – all 9 decks of them. It took us 10,000 steps to complete the task, and by the time we finished, we’d picked out our favourite three doors. Fridge magnets were all the rage on the deck above ours, but we went with a carefully arranged set of stickers with a Summer theme – bright, colourful eye catching and more tasteful than some. We also stumbled across the Secret Balcony, on the stern of Deck 8 – quiet and peaceful, just a few lounges overlooking the wake – a perfect place to read a book, watch the birds, or meditate while sea gazing.
Ian went to a talk on the Battle of Britain. I went to a talk on Mallorca (our last port of call). We couldn’t find a time to synchronise for lunch. Afternoon trivia, writing and photo editing, and a lovely dip in the hot tub was followed by a theatre show and dinner. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it …
