Wanting to minimise any physical exertion, I booked a ticket for a hop on hop off bus tour. The first thing I learned was that my clever rhyming heading from the previous post was incorrect. The locals pronounce it Triest-ay (as if there was an accent on the final “e”). After a nice circuit of the city, the bus headed for Trieste’s main attraction, Miramare Castle. The grounds and adjoining park are free to visit. I enjoyed strolling along the shaded seaside path from Barcola, where it seemed every Triestine was sunbathing, swimming or snorkelling in crystalline water. Then I spent a very pleasant couple of hours in the beautiful terraced gardens. Miramare is a fairytale castle by the sea, perched right on the cliffs. I will simply leave you with some pictures.
