Sunday 8th of September. Off the island of Unga 52.457N 168.21W
The weather has improved in that visibility was good but rain was about. We finally got to go ashore although Ilze made a late decision to stay on board as the footing at landing was not good being a steep gravel beach and then muddy tracks on the Island.
It is a ghost town, finally abandoned in 1969. With only 12 cattle left on the island, Pete’s good luck continued as I slipped on one of their fresh morning offerings to provide our landing group a moment of light relief.
Like all ghost towns it was redolent of lost hopes and dreams and at a lone grave on a nearby bluff, misery.
Glad I came. Not sad to leave.
Pete
