Dubai to Naples

DUBAI TO NAPLES.

There is nothing visibly older than the last two weeks in the mega rich, ultra new capitol of the United Arab Emirates.

Awake at 4.00am local time, freshly made pastries and coffee, even at that hour. Brisk trip in the limo to Dubai airport and even the two hour wait there was not too bad. We thought we got lucky again with the seat allocation with three seats just for us. Brand new A380.  Ilzes seat would not go back, the entertainment screen on the middle seat did not work and the arm rest of the third seat ate the headphones, so we were not in the best mood on arrival at Rome.

Only a 6 hour flight and due to the conflict in Syria and surrounds they diverted us across to Egypt and then north to Rome.  Crossed the Sinai Peninsula, saw no sign of anyone wandering for 40 days or nights, crossed the Red Sea which remained unparted, over the Giza plateau which was shrouded in fog.

In Rome we arrived in time to go to the TrenItalia office and change our tickets for an earlier train. “Can you run” she said, “platform 13 in five minutes”. We ran and made it and got to Naples in daylight.

There is nothing visibly newer in the via Speranzella in the old Spanish quarter of Naples than the last two centuries.  We chose the hotel Il Convento as it is on a narrow side street away from car traffic but it is a Vespa by pass.  The trick is to hold your line and they whizz past OK the big danger comes if they are on the phone than the cocked elbow can be a problem. However we survived it after all we have been to Kuta in Bali.

But in the end it is all about the pizza. There is nothing to say really. Pizza was invented in Naples and they simply do it better.

Daylight found us moderately refreshed (after the Vespa racing stopped about 2.30am and Ilze locked herself out of the loo) and we set off to walk to a number of places but primarily the Museum with all the artifacts from Pompeii.

We saw wonderful things and Ilze has 124 photos to sort.

Nice blogging! So when they say “with bells on” – THAT’s what they’re talking about!
