Today is our penultimate day in Singapore the LAND OF THE MIDNIGHT RUN, after moving hotels in the middle of the night (more on this some other time) we were so stressed that we didn’t drop off to sleep for ages. Consequently we woke at 9.30 and almost missed breakfast, which is served until 10 am.
What to do today? It’s sooooo hot and soooooo humid, but we decided that this would be our last opportunity to see the orchid gardens. It’s too far to walk there in this unbearable heat, so we wussed and caught a cab.
The orchid gardens large and are everything we had hoped to see last time we were here, but were directed to the wrong garden and got to see what the Singaporeans think is exotic – roses, poinsettias, lilies, cacti, all cool climate plants that are so ho-hum to us as we see at home in Aussie all the time. They were in an enclosure in the Botanic Gardens and just as Pete said, “we could sprint here”, we came across a couple of girls from Sweden decorating a Christmas tree.
I’ve chosen a small selection of orchid photos to bore you with. We took 124 photos, before my camera battery ran out, so be thankful that you only have to endure a dozen or so.
We then caught a cab to a place called Textile House in the suburb of Lavender, which sounds much more exotic than it is in reality, where I had great hopes of being able to drool over tonnes of fabrics. Turned out to be mostly wholesale businesses, so no luck, but I did manage to spend a couple of dollars on a few bits and bobs while patient Pete sat and waited. Then lunch, and a long walk back to the hotel in the midday heat.
Pete’s gone down to the pool to do a few laps, and I’ve had a cool and refreshing shower and have sat down to write this very short blog. (PS. The pool has a bar. Pete)
We check out of the hotel tomorrow at 11 am and will probably hang around in the foyer where it’s cool, before heading to the airport for our final leg home. It’s been a great trip, with its fair share of ups and downs, disappointments and incredible highlights, but right now we can smell the cheese toasties and just want to go home.
See you at Street-O on Wednesday evening!
Ilze.
Told you the orchids were worth it. Must count up how many photos I took though I think your 124 will beat it.
Hurry home – we miss you
