We’re leaving soon to board the cruise ship, and will be offline for a few days, so here’s a quick wrap of our day yesterday. We walked for miles/hours, and ended up feeling like we’d completed a 12 hour rogaine, but we did see a lot. I’ll let the pictures do the talking … they are all at the bottom of this post.
Morning – caught the train to Clarke Quay, and walked east along the river. We found ourselves in the midst of the aftermath of the Grand Prix, as they were dismantling it all. I’ve never seen so many portaloos, nor such a neat line of them.
We wound up at the Merlion statue, where we admired the views across to the Marina Bay Sands “ship in the sky” hotel, the Lotus, and the Flyer wheel.
We retreated to our hotel for lunch and a short rest, then set out for the afternoon and evening. By now we felt like experts on the trains, but you do a lot of walking underground as you change lines. At least its cool down there, and there’s a whole world of shops that you don’t see at street level.
Our first Garden was the wonderful Capita Springs building. All buildings should be like this – a productive and attractive rooftop garden which enhances interesting architecture, and invites you to enjoy the space. I loved it. The views are brilliant – and it’s free, with no queuing. I highly recommend it.
From there we headed to the more famous Gardens By The Bay. Last time I was here, it was only half built. We meandered our way to Supertree Grove, to see the intriguing structures. There is a lantern festival on. I went up onto the walkway, to see the plants up close, and to get a birds eye view of the surrounding gardens.
It took ages to make our way to Marina Bay, navigating bridges, stairs and escalators. Finally we were on the promenade beside the water, nicely placed to see “Spectra”, a light show with coloured dancing fountains, dramatic music, and laser lights. We only realised the buildings behind us were being illuminated, near the end of the show. So we headed to the other side of the bay, to watch the second show from a different standpoint.
Exhausted, we collapsed into bed, our feet throbbing but our heads full of the sights and sounds of Singapore.

It looks very much like a city of the future!
