We had a relatively cruisy drive up to Newcastle, where Ian dropped me and the luggage at the ferry terminal, then took the car to the airport, and the train back to the ferry – a repeat of last year. It was all very familiar as we boarded, took up residence in our teeny tiny cabin, ate the opposite of a teeny tiny buffet dinner, had a good night’s sleep in our bunk beds, and disembarked this morning. By midday we were deposited at Amsterdam Central station. I found a sunny spot to sit next to the canal, where I could watch watercraft of all shapes and sizes going past. Ian went to have a look at the Lego shop, enjoying some of the sights of Amsterdam en route.
From there we took a train to Rotterdam, then a light rail to our new home in Rodenrijs, a northern suburb. We are on the ground floor of a house that fronts a canal, and we have our own bridge to reach the small road. We also have a very nice garden to enjoy, if today’s sunny weather holds.
